The latest iPhone 17 Pro rumors confirm that Apple is working on adding 12GB of RAM, a 48MP telephoto camera, and a smaller Dynamic Island to the flagship smartphone. In comparison, the current iPhone 16 Pro features a 12MP telephoto camera, and 8GB RAM.
As spotted by MacRumors, in a research note shared by Pu with investment bank Haitong International, he has re-shared his claims that both iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro Max will have the following features:
- 48MP telephoto camera, up from the current 12MP telephoto camera in iPhone 16 Pro
- 24MP front camera, which Apple calls a TrueDepth camera, up from the 12MP front camera used in iPhone 16 Pro
- 12GB RAM, up from 8GB RAM in latest iPhones
- A narrower Dynamic Island, thanks to a smaller “metalens” for the Face ID system
Apple last increased the size of the notch, introduced with iPhone X, in iPhone 13. It was later replaced by the Dynamic Island in iPhone 14 Pro series. This will be the first time that Apple will be reducing the size of the Dynamic Island since its introduction.
One important detail from this bit of news is that Apple will use the same display sizes as it the ones it introduced with iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch, respectively, for iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro Max.
Alongside the Pro models, Apple is also working on an iPhone 17 Air model, which will be lighter and thinner than the iPhone 17 Pro models, and might also cost more, if the rumors are to be believed.
