With the release of iOS 18.2 and iPadOS 18.2 beta to developers, Apple has made an important change to the ChatGPT integration with Siri. In Settings, you can now see the ChatGPT Daily Limit under “Advanced Capabilities”, alongside an option to subscribe to the Plus tier of the popular LLM.
Apple does not specify what exactly is the limit for now, however, they are told whether they are under limit or exceeding it. ChatGPT users would know that the free version offers a limited number of queries with its advanced models, and falls back to older models.
The ChatGPT integration in iOS 18.2 and iPadOS 18.2 is system-wide and supports not only text generation and summarization but also image generation and more. After the removal of Twitter and Facebook integration in early versions of iOS, this is the first time that we are seeing such deep integration in iOS with any third-party product.
For users who already have ChatGPT Plus accounts, they can simply login to take full advantage of the advanced capabilities offered:
- 5x more messages on GPT-4o and access to advanced models
- Higher limits for photo and file uploads, image generation, and web browsing
- Natural, real-time conversations with ChatGPT’s advanced voice mode
It is important to note that the daily requests limit reset every 24 hours so there is a good chance that you may not need to pay anything to use the features for your needs. It is also expected that Apple will gradually add support for other extensions to Siri, such as Gemini and Claude. This will give users more choice and flexibility to use different models to suit their needs.
iOS 18.2 and iPadOS 18.2 also feature other new Intelligence features including Image Playground, Image Wand, Genmoji, Writing Tools improvements, Visual Intelligence, and much more.
