The Apple Vision Pro is a remarkable piece of technology, but its premium build has one significant drawback: weight. At $3,499, the Vision Pro offers a cutting-edge experience but comes with the inevitable trade-off of head strain during prolonged use. Addressing this issue, ResMed, a leader in medical-grade headgear, has introduced the Kontor Head Strap—a thoughtfully designed accessory to enhance comfort for Vision Pro users.
Priced at $119.95, the Kontor Head Strap is crafted from ultra-premium materials, making it both soft and supportive for extended wear. ResMed’s expertise, honed through decades of designing headgear for sleep apnea and respiratory devices, ensures a level of comfort that Apple’s default straps haven’t achieved. The strap’s design is backed by extensive data from thousands of 3D head and facial scans, providing a fit that caters to a wide range of users.
The Kontor Head Strap includes six modular counterweights, specifically designed to offset the Vision Pro’s front-heavy design. These counterweights aim to distribute the weight evenly, reducing strain on the wearer’s head and neck. ResMed offers two strap sizes: a standard size for medium and large Dual Loop Bands and a smaller size for users with the smaller Dual Loop Band. This customization ensures that users can find the perfect fit, enhancing the Vision Pro’s usability.
Apple’s partnership with ResMed reflects the company’s acknowledgment of the Vision Pro’s comfort challenges. While the Solo Knit Band and Dual Loop Band included with the Vision Pro are functional, neither provides the extended wear-time comfort users might desire. The Kontor Head Strap directly addresses this issue, offering a tailored solution for those who want to enjoy the Vision Pro for longer sessions, whether watching a movie, working on productivity tasks, or exploring immersive augmented reality environments.
Despite its premium design and functionality, the Kontor Head Strap is not without its limitations. Currently available through Apple’s online store in the U.S., U.K., and Australia, the strap is expected to begin shipping in January. However, buyers should note that customer service for the product will be handled by ResMed, not Apple. This means that any issues with the accessory will need to be directed to ResMed, making it essential for potential buyers to familiarize themselves with ResMed’s warranty policies and support channels.
