Apple has released iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1 beta 6 to developers today. The update is available now over-the-air for iPhone and iPad users.

This update has a bunch of changes which include new toggles for Satellite and AirDrop in Control Center, tweaks notification summaries, added TikTok sharing support to Apple Music, as well as added support for sleep apnea detection and breathing disturbances readings.

Installing iOS 18.1 or iPadOS 18.1 beta 6

As beta builds are meant to be used only for testing, backup your data before you install this on any device. You should be prepared to deal with issues including battery drain, bugs, slowdowns, app crashes, and even unwanted device restarts.

If your iPhone or iPad is already enrolled in the developer beta program, simply go to Settings > General > Software Update, and start the download process. Make sure you are:

  • connected a stable Wi-Fi connection
  • have sufficient storage on your device
  • have taken an iCloud backup.

If your device is not enrolled in the developer beta program, fret not, you can either wait for the public beta build, which should be available either later today or this week, or you can simply sign up to Apple Developer Program to register your device. This will allow you to download and install the beta update.

What’s new in iOS 18.1 beta 6?

Here is every new feature and change in this beta update:

  • Control Center has new individual toggles for Satellite and AirDrop, as well as Measure and Level controls. Apple previously created individual toggles for AirPlace Mode, Cellular Data, WiFi, Bluetooth, Personal Hotspot, VPN, and other connectivity options, after feedback from users. In the initial iOS 18 release and upto iOS 18.1 beta 5, all network options are combined into one control.
  • Notifications and Notification Summaries now show the number of notifications in the stack.
  • Apple Music now lets users share songs to TikTok.
  • Support for sleep apnea detection and breathing disturbances readings is finally available.
  • New splash screens have been added to different apps.

P.S. Apple has also released macOS Sequoia 15.1 Beta 4, watchOS 11.1 Beta 4, tvOS 18.1 Beta 4, and visionOS 2.1 Beta 4 to developers today.
