Nintendo has just launched Nintendo Music, a dedicated music streaming app for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers, providing access to an exclusive catalog of iconic game soundtracks from Nintendo’s rich gaming history. Available for download on iOS and Android, the app includes music from popular franchises like The Legend of Zelda, Super Mario, Metroid, Animal Crossing, and more, spanning from NES classics to Nintendo Switch titles like Splatoon 3 and Super Mario Odyssey.
Upon opening the Nintendo Music app, users will find an interface familiar to most streaming app users, with some distinctly Nintendo-centric twists. Listeners can explore playlists sorted by specific games, characters, platforms, and even moods, with themed collections like “boss battles” or “victory themes.” In addition to Nintendo-curated playlists, the app allows fans to build their own playlists of favorite tracks, download them for offline listening, and loop songs for up to 60 minutes—ideal for creating a relaxing or energizing background soundtrack for daily tasks.
One standout feature of Nintendo Music is its spoiler prevention setting, a thoughtful addition that lets players avoid hearing tracks tied to story spoilers from games they haven’t finished. This allows gamers to safely explore music from the extensive Nintendo library without worrying about uncovering plot points or climactic moments in games they’re still experiencing. For example, music from iconic moments in games like The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Metroid Prime can be carefully curated to avoid giving away surprises for newer players.
While the concept and features are impressive, Nintendo Music’s launch library includes a relatively limited selection of games and soundtracks, with just 23 titles available at launch. These include major fan favorites, such as:
- Nintendo Switch: Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Super Mario Odyssey,
- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and Pokémon Scarlet and Violet
- Wii: Super Mario Galaxy and Wii Channels
- Nintendo DS: Nintendogs and Tomodachi Collection
- Nintendo GameCube: Metroid Prime
- Game Boy Advance: Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade
- Nintendo 64: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Star Fox 64
- Super NES: Donkey Kong Country and Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island
- Game Boy: Dr. Mario and Kirby’s Dream Land
- NES: Metroid, Metroid (Famicom Disk System ver.), and Super Mario Bros.
Nintendo promises to expand the app’s offerings over time. Future updates are expected to bring music from additional classics, like Super Mario 64, Wii Sports, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Splatoon 2, and F-Zero X, ensuring that fans have even more to look forward to.
For fans ready to dive into Nintendo’s vast music catalog, the app is available as a free download on the Google Play Store and Apple’s App Store. However, access is limited to those with an active Nintendo Switch Online subscription, including family plan users and those using a seven-day free trial of the service.
