Apple’s upcoming iPhone SE 4 is generating a lot of buzz, even though it’s not expected to launch until next spring. The current iPhone SE 3rd generation will remain available until at least 2025, but that hasn’t stopped rumors and leaks about the next iteration from circulating online. Notably, a recent image of a third-party case design has surfaced, shared by well-known leaker Sonny Dickson. Although the case does not provide a direct look at the iPhone SE 4 itself, it offers intriguing details about what we might expect from the upcoming budget iPhone.

The case design hints at a flat back panel, a design feature in line with Apple’s modern aesthetic. However, what stands out most is the large aperture for the rear-facing camera setup. Historically, iPhone SE models have featured a single rear camera, but this case design appears to accommodate a dual-camera layout, similar to what is found on the iPhone 14.

The horizontal orientation of the cutout, resembling that of the iPhone 7 Plus, also deviates from Apple’s recent design trends. Despite these clues, there is still speculation that the iPhone SE 4 might stick with a single 48MP camera, like the one in the iPhone 15, offering users two focal lengths: a 1x and 2x zoom through the 48MP sensor’s capabilities. This configuration would enable Apple to deliver optical-quality zoom without needing two physical cameras.

Another interesting detail from the case design is the cutout for a physical mute switch, which suggests that the iPhone SE 4 will not feature the Action Button found on the iPhone 15 Pro. While earlier rumors hinted at the possibility of the Action Button making its way to the iPhone SE, this leak suggests otherwise, maintaining a more traditional layout with the mute switch.

In terms of design, the iPhone SE 4 is expected to ditch the home button for the first time, transitioning to an edge-to-edge display akin to the iPhone 14. This change, combined with the move to a 6.1-inch OLED display, marks a significant upgrade over the previous LCD panels found in earlier SE models. It’s also expected to feature USB-C, aligning with the broader shift in Apple’s lineup.

Given the competitive landscape, particularly in markets like China where Apple has faced increasing competition from brands like Huawei and Xiaomi, the iPhone SE 4 could be a critical release for Apple. With an expected price point of around $500, the new SE will likely appeal to budget-conscious consumers who still want a premium Apple experience, especially with features like a 48MP camera, Face ID, and improved display technology.
